“Silk Way” company of Azerbaijan and “Antonov” state enterprise of Ukraine signed an Agreement about purchasing 10 “An-178” type average capacity transportation aircrafts.
Zaur Akhundov, the President of “Silk Way” aviation company and Dmitriy Kiva, the President and chief designer of “Antonov” state enterprise signed the document.
After signing this Agreement Zaur Akhundov was presented the model of “An-178” aircraft. It was noted that this was the first Agreement regarding the sale of the mentioned aircrafts of this enterprise.
The first test flight of “An-178” aircraft was carried out before signing the Agreement. The test flight went successfully.

On July 6th, 2011, The Azerbaijan State Civil Aviation Administration formed a special committee that includes representatives from CAA and Silk Way Airlines. On the same evening group of committee specialists arrived at Bagram Airport on Silk Way Airlines special charter flight. The group later departed to Kabul International Airport to start the organization procedures for access to the alleged place of crash. With support of Ministry of Transport of Afghanistan, together with ISAF Coalition Forces, an emergency briefing was held to establish the rescue plan and determine the exact number of victims among the 9 crew members:

At the same time, the Government of Afghanistan formed a committee under Ministry of Transport of Afghanistan to investigate the plane crash, together with Representatives of our committee. The committee team presence is very limited due to the hard to reach crash area in mountains with active military action on site. Despite these factors, with support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, US Embassy in Azerbaijan, ISAF forces and Afghanistan Law enforcement, the committee is looking for any possibilities to get access to the aircraft crew members' remains and find out the preliminary information about the crash.
Azerbaijan Republic committee team will stay in the country until the all necessary formalities have been finished.
On April 26-28, 2010, Silk Way Airlines and Euroasian Cargo participated in the first Afghanistan Air Cargo & Logistics Conference held in Istanbul. The conference brought together military and humanitarian/relief contractors, air carriers, logistics firms, forwarders and various specialist firms for the first time to meet and network. Silk Way Airlines took the opportunity to be the Gold Sponsor for this event. Mr. Zaur Akhundov – President of the Silk Way Holding, presented the overview of the market and perspectives for the developing of the region.
Silk Way Airlines has flown the latest acquisition to its fleet – the third B747-400F aircraft – on its first commercial flight from Amsterdam to Baku. The aircraft was delivered in July to Luxembourg. This new aircraft completes the full fleet renovation, bringing us to a total of 5 Boeings.
